As a word of advice, perhaps the smaller the nature of your request, the easier it would be for them to grant it. And the less money, too, I imagine.

I think the best preparation for surprises is to not be prepared at all. Not exactly. Then no matter what happens, you'll be in a position to move forward rather than backtrack.

Adapting leads to resilience. Animals do it all the time. They adapt, they survive, they live on and pass their genes to the next generation.

No, I don’t believe that changes anything. Unless you are talking about the assimilation of different species to create a new one which is very difficult except when one is perhaps alien and can do so with a form built for it or a chance of viable offspring… which will also need to be able to reproduce.

I'm not from a place aliens are a thing. Or at least I don't think so. [ but that seems to be enough of an answer. ] Then...we'll have to see how resilient everyone here turns out to be.
